Shakib Al Hasan is the captain of the national cricket team in all three formats. Shakib is now out of the squad after suffering a finger injury during the Cricket World Cup in India last month.
Star batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto is leading the team as the emergency captain in the ongoing series against New Zealand in the absence of this world's best all-rounder.
Under his captaincy, Bangladesh got a historic victory against New Zealand in the Sylhet Test which ended on Saturday. This is Bangladesh's first Test win against the Kiwis at home.
The second and final Test match of the series will start tomorrow Wednesday at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Before that, in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, the head coach of the Bangladesh team, Chandika Hathurusinghe, praised captain Nazmul Hossain Shantar.
He said, "Captainship and leadership are different things. Shanta's captaincy in the Sylhet Test was great. Strategically was at its best. His fielding was superb. Have tried something different, which has been very effective. The leadership was great. He led from the front.
Do you see Shanta as the future captain? In response to such a question, Hathurusinghe said, "I think he has a long time ahead of him." The board can take a decision by looking at his leadership and captaincy. The board will take the right decision. Definitely want to see him as a regular captain.
